Dr. Jon D. Elhai

Dr. Jon Elhai is an Ohio licensed psychologist with specializations in clinical and forensic psychology. Dr. Elhai has extensive clinical experience and a research publication record on psychological trauma and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). He consults in cases where a diagnosis of PTSD is being contested, including in the evaluation of genuine vs. fabricated PTSD.

Dr. Elhai serves a Professor of Psychology and Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Toledo in Toledo, Ohio. He supervises Ph.D. students on research, and teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on abnormal psychology, psychotherapy, research and statistics. He conducts scientific research on psychological trauma and PTSD – specifically in the assessment and diagnosis of PTSD, and mechanisms underlying PTSD’s development. He has published more than 200 papers on trauma and PTSD. He has presented his research at such conferences as the American Psychological Association, International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies, Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies, Anxiety and Depression Association of America, and numerous others. He serves as an Editorial Board member for several scientific journals in psychology and psychiatry.

Dr. Elhai holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University. He completed his psychology internship and postdoctoral fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina and Charleston Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Charleston, South Carolina.
